The Importance of Having Your Air Conditioner Serviced

The Importance of Having Your Air Conditioner Serviced

Your home’s air conditioning system has 2 major functions.  Those major functions are to remove heat and humidity.  It does this by relying on the movement of air across 2 radiator like coils called a condenser (outdoor) coil & evaporator (Indoor) coil.  These coils changes freon so that it is capable of absorbing heat and transferring the heat outside to be released.  As the air moves across the evaporator coil, it also draws moisture out of the air, allowing for the dehumidification.  Here are a few  things that gets checked during air conditioning servicing and why it’s important.

YOUR OUTDOOR COIL IS CLEANED, YOUR INDOOR COIL IS CHECKED, AND YOUR FILTER CHANGED OR CLEANED.

The slightest debris that gets on your coils will begin to restrict much needed air flow, causing your unit not to be as efficient and place an added stress on your compressor.  It may not be noticeable at first but overtime it will be detrimental to the lifespan & efficiency of your unit.  The indoor coil is often protected by a filter, so it is normally not dirty.  That’s why it is important to change your filters. To clean an evaporator coil could be expensive.

YOUR FREON LEVELS CHECKED.

Your freon levels also play a major role in your air conditioner’s performance.  The indoor and outdoor coils can not function properly if there is not enough or to much freon to circulate through the air conditioning system.  This too, will put a strain on your compressor.

YOUR ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS CHECKED.

About 90% of air conditioning unit breakdowns are electrical.  Having the electrical components and wiring checked could minimize the chance of an emergency breakdown, which could be costly.

CLEARING THE DRAIN LINE.

Remember your air conditioner unit removes moisture from the air.  The moisture that’s removed from the air goes into the indoor coil’s drain pan and run out through a drain line.  If the drain line gets clogged, the water will overflow into your home.  If you have a gas furnace the water will run down into the furnace causing even more damage.

CONCLUSION:

Though it may not be the end of the world if you miss a few services, it is important for the efficiency and longevity of your air conditioning system. Unlike other appliances in your home, during warm weather your air conditioner unit is constantly running.  Getting your unit serviced can also minimize emergency breakdowns, which can be costly and inconvenient.  I think it’s definitely worth the investment.  Give us a call or email us today and schedule your service!  Email info@asheatandair.com or call (205)290-5810.
